The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia
Honored with 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy
(Richmond, Va.) – The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia (TCF) has earned the 2013 Chancellor’s Award for Leadership in Philanthropy. The organization was nominated for the award by J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (JSRCC). The award was given at a luncheon ceremony at the Country Club of Virginia on Tuesday, April 16, 2013.

Reynolds announces student art show
RICHMOND, Va. (April 12, 2013) – At J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, each spring the walls of the Gallery in Georgiadis Hall on the Parham Road Campus become an art gallery for the Student Art Show, displaying many creative works in all shapes and sizes. This year 73 individual works of art will be on display until April 17. The artwork includes paintings, drawings, and photographs.

– Just in time for spring planting, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, the Goochland-Powhatan Master Gardeners and the VA Cooperative Extension will host the 9th Annual Spring Garden Fest that will feature a day filled with valuable gardening sessions and the opportunity to purchase plants and flowers ready to plant. The event scheduled for Saturday, April 27 will run from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., rain or shine, on the College’s Goochland Campus located at 1851 Dickinson Road in Goochland.

– Open Registration for the 2013 summer semester will begin on Monday, April 22. Classes begin on Monday, May 20. Students can register in-person in the Student Success Centers located on each of the College’s campuses or 24 hours per day online at www.reynolds.edu. Phi Theta Kappa Inducts 112 JSRCC Students into its International Honor Society
Richmond, Va. (March 5, 2013)
– Reynolds inducted 112 students into the Alpha Iota Beta and the Alpha Gamma Omicron chapters of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on Saturday, February 23. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two‐year colleges and recognizes and encourages the academic achievement of two-year college students and provides opportunities for individual growth and development. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is offered to students who have a 3.5 GPA or higher over at least 12 credit hours in a degree program. >> read full story

– The New Year has started off well for Stephanie Louise Boehles, a culinary arts student at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College as she has been selected as a finalist for a 2013 Elby Award in the Culinary Student of the Year category. The second annual Elby Awards, sponsored by Richmond Magazine, and named for renowned French chef and Richmonder Paul Elbling, will be awarded on Sunday evening, February 10, 2013, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. “The Illustrated Man”
RICHMOND, Va. (January 15, 2013)
– J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College will host an “Around the World Through Books” discussion on Thursday, February 7, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Massey Library on the Parham Road Campus, located at 1651 E. Parham Road in Richmond.
The session will feature “The Illustrated Man” by Ray Bradbury. This book, written in 1951, is a collection of science fiction short stories which explore the nature of humanity. The stories are tied together by the frame device of The Illustrated Man, a vagrant with a tattooed body whom the unnamed narrator meets. The man’s tattoos, allegedly created by a woman from the future, are animated and each tells a different tale. >>read full story

– As a part of its celebration of Black History Month, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College will host a concert featuring the Charles City Spiritual Ensemble on Wednesday, February 27, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Lipman Auditorium of the Massey Library Technology Center located at 1651 E. Dr. Glenn DuBois, who has led the Virginia Community College System since 2001, will give the commencement speech. Opticianry program provides free eyewear for Middle College students
Richmond, Va. (April 24, 2012)—A friendly conversation between two colleagues turned into a worthwhile service learning opportunity for students in the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Opticianry and Middle College programs. Mary Jo Washko, director of Middle College, recently mentioned to Opticianry program head, Yvonne Metten, that 17 of her students needed corrective eyewear. Advance College Academy makes first visit to Reynolds
RICHMOND, Va. (March 26, 2012) - “J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College…..A World of Opportunity” – that was the sound of the Advance College Academy (ACA) students showing their JSRCC spirit during their first visit to the College’s Parham Road Campus. The ACA consists of Henrico County Public School students who are in a newly designed program that allows them to obtain an Associate of Science degree in Social Science, in partnership with Reynolds, during their last two years of high school. Reynolds Chosen for National Initiative Designed to Improve the Quality of Undergraduate Student Learning, Facilitate Effective Student Transfer, and Increase College Completion Rates

Sargeant Reynolds Community College recently announced that it has been chosen to participate in a new project sponsored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. This initiative, The Quality Collaboratives (QC) initiative, supported with funding from the Lumina Foundation, is designed to advance systemic change in eight higher education state systems. Reynolds students to represent Commonwealth at national business leadership conference RICHMOND, Va. (May 10, 2010) – Several J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College students recently received first place wins at the Future Business Leaders of America - Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA – PBL) State Leadership Conference. Reynolds also received first place for its community service project sponsoring the Salvation Army Food Pantry. For several years, the Reynolds chapter of Phi Beta Lamba has collected food for the Salvation Army. This year, the group more than doubled collections and delivered over 3,800 pounds of food to the pantry just before Thanksgiving. The project was presented by JSRCC students Matthew Hylton (Richmond), Krystal Brooks (Sandy Hook), and Clarissa Navarro Smith (Mechanicsville). Winners at the leadership conference will compete at the national level in Nashville this July.
