JSRCC CELEBRATES LIBRARY & TECHNOLOGY
CENTER GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

RICHMOND, Va (November 23, 2005) - J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, November 21 from noon – 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the ceremonial start of construction for the College’s Library & Technology Center.

The new wireless building will house a library of the future that will include a coffee bar, state-of-the-art classrooms and a 400 seat auditorium. This project will also re-skin Building-B to match the exterior of the new building.

“With the continued growth of our student population, the Library & Technology Center will allow Reynolds to better serve the Greater-Richmond community,” said JSRCC President Dr. Gary Rhodes. “Students attending JSRCC in the near future will enjoy the first completely wireless building and a contemporary library that will allow them to connect with their peers throughout the world.”

The Virginia Community College Systems allocated $3.9 million in supplemental funds for Reynolds to build its first new academic building on the Parham Road Campus in over 25 years. The Library & Technology Center is slated to open in time for fall 2007 classes and will encompass over 79,787 square feet.

Over 80 guests enjoyed a luncheon that was surrounded by a technological theme of robotic, computer-controlled lightening, hi-tech table displays and fiber optic sprays representing the future of JSRCC.
