Career Studies Certificate

PURPOSE: The Pre-Practical Nursing Career Studies Certificate (CSC) is designed to help prepare students for admission to the Practical Nursing Certificate. Students enrolled in this CSC are not yet accepted into the Practical Nursing Certificate, but are completing selected general education prerequisite and nurse aide courses. After completing the CSC, students will apply for admission to the Practical Nursing Certificate.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES: This program is designed to prepare students to be successful in the Practical Nursing Certificate program.  At the completion of HCT 101 and HCT 102, the student will be eligible to apply for the test to become a Certified Nurse Aide, offered through the Virginia Board of Nursing.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: General college curricular admission

PROGRAM NOTES:  Students must declare their plan as the Pre-Practical Nursing Career Studies Certificate (code 221-157-02).  Admission to the Practical Nursing Certificate is competitive, and completion of the Pre-Practical Nursing CSC does not guarantee placement in the program.  Students interested in the Practical Nursing program should review the information on the program in the College Catalog, with a focus on required College Placement Test results.
