WelcomeGroup Advising
Group advising sessions are two to three hour information sessions that provide new students with the opportunity to learn about important College policies, meet with an academic advisor, and register for classes. Group Advising sessions are open to anyone but are targeted to students that are new to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College for the Spring 2012 semester. Students should complete Placement Tests at least 1 week prior to the session they enroll in. Seating is limited and registration will be offered on a first-come first-served basis.
** Sessions are now closed. Please visit your Campus Success Center to be advised.
Meeting with an Academic Advisor
New, non-curricular, and continuing students that have completed 30 or fewer credit hours are encouraged to meet with an advisor in any campus Student Success Center.
Academic advisors are prepared to inform students about JSRCC’s policies and procedures, academic program requirements, and College services.
Students that have completed more than 30 credits or who are enrolled in a Certificate or Career Studies Certificate (CSC) should meet with a faculty advisor in their selected program. View the list of faculty advisors.
Before meeting with an academic advisor, it is important to prepare for the advising session by doing the following:
Career and Transfer Advising
In addition to curricular advising, Reynolds provides transfer and career advising for students that intend to transfer to a four-year college or university, and/or that may need assistance with career exploration. Career, Employment, & Transfer Center are available to assist students with the development of specific academic plans that will easily transfer to the institution(s) of their choice. Advisors can also help students determine the most appropriate academic program(s) by administering career interest inventories such as the VCCS Wizard, Discover and the Strong Interest Inventory.
