washing handsThe symptoms present with COVID-19 are similar to those of the common flu – fever, cough, fatigue shortness of breath and other breathing problems. In more severe cases, COVID-19 can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. There are numerous precautions you can take to minimize the spread of germs and promote good health. These self-care habits to reduce the chance of infection:

  • Get a flu vaccine (CDC flu vaccine finder)
  • Practice good hand hygiene and cough etiquette
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. (CDC "What You Need to Know About Handwashing")
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid sharing food or drink with anyone
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Get an adequate amount of rest and maintain a healthy diet
