Dominion Resources was facing the challenge of changing a corporate culture from one in which each request for new or changed service was handled without question or cost analysis, to one in which every business decision – most made by field-level employees – could aversely affect the company. The driver for this change was the move from a regulated electricity supplier to a mostly non-regulated environment in which the company will have to better compete to maintain market share. JSRCC was asked to develop a customized curriculum in each business unit to assist employees in becoming more financially literate – to become able to make reasoned business decisions based on cost-based analysis. The company had determined that financial literacy was the skill gap most in need of improvement if the corporation was to be successful in the implementation of its strategic plan. 

Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority

JSRCC has been asked to take on a wide variety of assignments to improve the overall effectiveness of the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Among these are: 1) designing the architecture of the RRHA University; 2) raising the skill level in the Finance/Administration division through redesign for key positions; 3) assisting the HR office in the re-design of compensation systems to better promote learning and merit; 4) assisting the Executive Director on restructuring the organization to better promote change and communication; 5) working with the Leadership Change Team to help create a culture which promotes employee involvement and continuous improvement.

Southern States

Southern States asked JSRCC's Center for Organizational Effectiveness to assist  the company as it redefined its retail strategy. The company was hoping to change the product mix and look of its stores from an agricultural image to that of a suburban, home improvement center. Our role was to assist in redesigning jobs, identification of critical competencies, building a model of best practices and then training to the new competencies. Southern States is on record as having said that this was the best received training intervention in their history, and that the switch to the new store format could not have been successful without the assistance of JSRCC.
