The 18th Annual Employee Recognition & Awards Program

The Reynolds Community College Awards Program is open to all full-time and part-time college employees for their accomplishments during the previous calendar year. All full-time and part-time faculty and staff who were employed for the full previous calendar year are eligible to be nominated for any of the awards described below. Nominations may be from co-workers, supervisors, or self.

Nominations are due by 5:00pm on Friday, March 10, 2017. Award recipients will be announced at the Employee Recognition and Awards Program on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Lipman Auditorium, Parham Road Campus.

Academic Scholar Award 

Awarded to an individual who has achieved significant academic scholarly accomplishment through research, publishing, and/or professional presentations. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following: 

  • Research in the teaching discipline, instructional pedagogy, or instructional technology
  • Publication in newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals, or other recognized media
  • Presentation and/or major speech at professional organizations or events
  • Honors, awards, or recognition from professional organizations
College Spirit Award 

Awarded to an individual who demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and college spirit. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following: 

  • Displaying a constant positive attitude
  • Striving to create enthusiasm or a positive attitude in others
  • Conducting activities or events that are designed to boost morale and/or social interaction among employees
Learning Environment Award

Awarded to an individual who best embraces the concepts of the Learning Environment.Nominees evaluated for one or more of the following:  

  • conducting activities that demonstrate the principles of the Learning Environment
  • consistently demonstrating behavior that models the Learning Environment
  • developing instructional or administrative materials that demonstrate the principles of the Learning Environment
Community Impact Award

Awarded to an individual who has greatly impacted the college’s image through community service and/or involvement. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following: 

  • Involvement in a community event such as charity fund raisers; events to foster diversity awareness; or other events designed to benefit the local community
  • Volunteerism at a local community agency, school or church
  • Service on the board of a local community service agency
 Multicultural Enrichment Award

Awarded to an individual who demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and commitment to helping our college and/or community celebrate the richness of different cultures, diversity, and inclusion. Nominees should demonstrate an exceptional understanding of diversity and inclusiveness beyond the call of duty and shall be evaluated for accomplishments in two or more of the following:

  • Demonstration of emerging or sustained commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion, and multiculturalism through positive communication between persons of different backgrounds and different cultures represented at our college campuses and our community
  • Evidence of exceptional efforts to promote a college environment that is free from bias and discrimination
  • Striving to create enthusiasm and a positive attitude in others towards celebrating differences in culture
  • Conducting activities or events that are designed to enrich multiculturalism and diversity at our college
Green Award 

Awarded to an individual who demonstrates contributions to the college that promote and encourage environmental sustainability. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following:    

  • Improving the environmental health of our college through leadership, service projects or other activities;
  • Promoting environmental sustainability by developing a course that meets the environmental sustainability designation for students;
  • Working with the green team to support activities that are environmental friendly;
  • Promoting college donations that support sustainable efforts;
  • Earning acclaim through grants or awards that support environmental sustainability.
Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Faculty Leadership Award

The Virginia Sargeant Reynolds Faculty Leadership Awardcommemorates the twenty-six year presidency of S. A. Burnette. The award was established by Virginia Sargeant Reynolds, the mother of J. Sargeant Reynolds for whom the college is named. Through her kind generosity, an endowed fund has been established with the Foundation to annually provide a stipend to the recipient of this award. The winner of this award receives a $500 check. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following:   

  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Demonstrated commitment to J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College
Shining Star Award

Awarded to an individual who has achieved a major accomplishment of significant or world class quality that furthers the college’s achievement of its strategic priorities. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following:    

  • Providing leadership for a major strategic initiative
  • Chairing a committee or task force that leads to a significant improvement in student success, business processes, or instructional quality
  • Singly or jointly achieving a major accomplishment of significant or world class quality that supports the college’s strategic plan
Classified Staff Employee of the Year Award

Awarded to a full-time, part-time or wage/hourly classified employee who demonstrates exemplary individual achievement through their contributions and performance in their job, and inspires and supports the performance and achievement of their colleagues. Nominees evaluated for accomplishments in one or more of the following:    

  • Inspires, encourages or supports the achievement of others, such as through leading by example
  • Routinely initiates actions or contributes ideas to improve work methods or efficiency within their department, division or to college-wide processes and procedures which result in sustainable and measurable outcomes 
  • Acts as a catalyst for positive change through work on committees, projects or Reynolds initiatives
  • Enhances and/or promotes a positive image of Reynolds through excellent communications and/or customer service with the college or within the community
