Getting Started In Distance Learning

Before You Register for classes

  1. Complete the application to the college.
  2. New and program students: Consult with an access center specialist, academic advisor, or the Center for Distance Learning (CDL) coordinator. Self-advising students: Check program requirements and course prerequisites in the college catalog.
  3. Take placement tests and discuss results with a Success Center specialist or academic advisor.
  4. Select Distance Learning course(s) and check the college’s schedule for the date and time for the required on-campus meeting(s). NOTE: Be sure that you can make the required meeting(s) before registering for the course.
  5. Register for distance learning courses at a campus Success Center, by telephone using REYNET at (804) 371-3308,  or by logging into MyJSRCC and selecting Student Information System.  Distance learning courses are identified with a DL in the section.  Be sure to check the section notes for any required on-campus meetings and other information.

After You Register for classes

    1. Contact the Center for Distance Learning at distance-ed@reynolds.edu  or 804.523.5612 and ask to be enrolled in CDL 001 – Orientation to Distance Learning.  You'll need to supply your username or emplid to be enrolled.
    2. Log into MyJSRCC and select Blackboard.  Select CDL 001 - Orientation to Distance Learning from the My Courses list.

    4. Complete all activities under “Assignments”.
    5. Email your current instructors to let them know you’ve completed the Orientation to Distance Learning

  2. Check the section notes to see if there are required on-campus meetings for your classes in the current college schedule.  There you will find meeting date, time and place.  If you cannot make the face-to-face, required meeting, you will need to contact your instructor directly.  Emails and phone numbers for instructors can be found at: College Contact Information.

  3. Develop your study plan and follow it!
