Getting Started in Distance Learning
| Before You Register New and program students: Consult with an access center specialist, academic advisor, or the Center for
Distance Learning (CDL) coordinator.
Self-advising students: Check program requirements and course prerequisites in the college catalog. Take placement tests and discuss results with an access center specialist or academic advisor.
Select Distance Learning course(s) and check the college’s schedule for the date and time for the required on-campus meeting(s). NOTE: Be sure that you can make the required meeting(s) before registering for the course. Register at a campus Access Center, by telephone using REYNET at (804) 371-3308 or at
Reynolds Online.
After You Register
1. Complete the Distance Learning Orientation online.
• Go to the web site: http://learn.vccs.edu
• Enter your Username as: jrstudent
• Enter the Password as: college
• Click the Log In button.
• Under “My Blackboard Courses” you should see the course entitled: CDL 001 - Orientation to Distance Learning at JSRCC. Click on that link to enter the orientation course.
• Read the instructions in “Announcements”, which is the first page that opens. Complete all activities under “Assignments”
This orientation module is useful to all Distance Learning students. However, it has been specifically designed to help the new Distance Learning student develop skills and strategies for success.
2. Attend the course orientation if one is required for your Distance Learning class. Check on the college’s schedule for meeting date, time and place. You will get course materials, additional information, and course access directions from the instructor at the first on-campus meeting. If you cannot make the face to face required meeting, you will need to contact your instructor directly. 3. Develop your study plan and follow it!

Resetting and Selecting your new Password
You will need a
Username and
Password to log into Blackboard.
This password will be used to access your Email,
Blackboard and VCCS SIS8 (PeopleSoft / Reynolds
Online). The directions for setting and resetting your password
are below. If the system does not recognize your
Name, SSN, or Birth Date it will not allow you to
reset your password. In this case you may be
entering the information incorrectly. To verify what
information is in the system, please call the
Information
Center at

Go to

Click Reset Your Password (or SET if new
to the college)
|

On the next page type your Last Name, First
Name, Birth Date (MMDDYY), and SSN as they
appear on college official documents
|

Then on the next page type your NEW password, then
type it again for verification
You will then need to enter a security question
and answer
|

Click Next
|
|
Your password has been changed
and will be the same in Blackboard, Email, VCCS
SIS8 (PeopleSoft / Reynolds Online)

Attention!
New passwords must have 7 to 10
characters. Your password must contain a combination
of:

At least one UPPERCASE letter
|
|
At least one lowercase letter
|
|
At least one number (0-9)
|
