Teacher Preparation Transfer Programs
These are senior institutions that offer a specific transfer program for teacher preparation in specific areas. Please be sure that your intended grade level and/or content area match what the senior institution offers for transfer.
James Madison University, Longwood University, Norfolk State University, Radford University, UVA-Wise and Virginia Union University
Virginia Commonwealth University
All other senior institutions for which we have transfer agreements, but not specifically for teacher preparation: http://inside.reynolds.edu/inside_asr/Curriculum/ArticSr/default.htm
It is recommended that the PRAXIS I (PPST) and the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment—VCLA be taken one semester prior to your last semester at JSRCC (i.e. if you are on a 2-year plan, then tests should be taken the fall of the second year).
You may use other assessments in the place of all or part of the Praxis I. View the possible substitions for the Praxis I.
Other tests (Praxis II and Reading for Virginia Educators- RVE) should be taken as recommended by your senior (transfer) institution.
Field experiences are extremely important in preparing pre-service teachers for the classroom. JSRCC’s Pre-Teacher Education Program requires a total of 50 (fifty) hours of field experience. Students enrolled in SDV 101 Orientation to Teacher Preparation are required to complete 10 (ten) field experience hours. Students enrolled in EDU 200 Introduction to Teaching as a Profession must complete 40 (forty) field experience hours. Please refer to the Field Experience Manual for complete details and all forms needed for successful completion of your field experiences.

Pre-Teacher Education Student Advising
Accurate advising is an integral part of your program as a Pre-Teacher Education student. First-year students (or students with less than 30 credits) will be advised through the Student Success Center. After you have completed 30 hours of coursework, you will be advised by a faculty advisor.
Note: Mathematics and Science students should also contact Prof. Shalini Upadhyaya at supadhyaya@Reynolds.edu.
In order to facilitate your transfer to a senior institution, it is highly recommended that you meet with a Career and Transfer counselor.
