J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is
committed to ensuring that every citizen in our
community has access and opportunity for a college
education. We know that when educated individuals
prosper, so do our neighborhoods, our businesses,
and our Greater Richmond communities. As an
employer, we know that a highly skilled workforce
gives Richmond businesses a competitive edge—
contributing to a stronger and more productive
economy for us all.

Through accessible education and comprehensive workforce training at the College, broad societal issues can be addressed in very specific ways— challenges like the City of Richmond high school dropout crisis, unsafe neighborhoods, and workforce shortages. One of our most pressing needs in Virginia is to make room for 40,000 additional college students projected to enter the community college system by 2012. Another looming concern is the need to promote an open culture that respects racial differences. There is a lack of regional cooperation initiatives to move our communities forward in Richmond.

Opportunities exist for new and expanded College programs in the suburban counties of Hanover and Henrico. Our rural campus in Goochland will help stimulate economic opportunity for outlying areas. Through the presence of our Downtown Campus, we remain committed to city revitalization efforts.


Reynolds is positioned to provide leadership, forge partnerships, and create programmatic solutions to these community challenges that face Greater Richmond today. To do this, we are embarking on a multi-million dollar Major Gifts Campaign that will provide the financial resources necessary to address our community’s need for an educated and skilled workforce. This is the largest community college campaign in the history of Virginia.
