Welcome to the School of Nursing and Allied Health at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College!
Our School, located at the Downtown Richmond Campus, is very closely associated with our local hospitals and many other health care facilities. The School of Nursing and Allied Health comprises programs leading to an AAS or Certificate degrees in 11 different healthcare fields, including:

• Dental Laboratory Technician
• Dental Assisting
• Medical Laboratory Technician
• Opticianry

As many of you know, the commonwealth and the nation are experiencing a shortage

in all of these health care professions. That shortage is projected to increase over the next 20 years. By obtaining the credentials in one of these health care professions, you are opening doors for your future—whether it is through earning power and job security in a health care field or as a stepping stone to furthering your education—through a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degrees in a health care field.
I invite you to explore these programs at JSRCC and consider if a health career might not fit into your future. Not only are many health professions very rewarding as means to help others through “hands on” interventions—Nursing, EMS, Respiratory Therapy, Dental Assisting. Others do not involve direct patient care, but require specialized skills that contribute to the health care team’s goals of improving health – Dental Laboratory, Medical Laboratory, Opticianry, Health Records Coding, Pharmacy Technician. The skills obtained in these programs help to prepare many of our students to continue their education at the Bachelor’s Degree or graduate school level. JSRCC has close ties with VCU, where many of our graduates continue in their educational pursuits.
