Video game tourney to benefit Miracle Network
The JSRCC Student Council Association is coordinating a video game tournament
to benefit the Richmond Children’s Miracle Network, an organization
that supports the Richmond Children’s Hospital and VCU Children’s
Medical Center. Participants can choose from two games – Madden 2010
on Xbox or MarioKart on Wii). Winners will receive Visa gift cards worth
$25 to $100. The tournament will take place during the week of November
30. Register by Friday, November 20 by contacting Kemper Steele at 804.523.5986
or in the Office of Student Life. Registration is $10.
Understanding Relationships
and Sexuality - Rescheduled TBD!
The second topic in the JSRCC Real Life Series will be “Understanding
Relationships and Sexuality” Learn about the link between identity,
relationships, and sexuality and how to avoid the pitfalls of high-risk
sexual behavior. This
workshop will be led by Richmond City Health District Coordinator for Male
Responsibility Brian Gullins.
Go around the world through books - Rescheduled
to Nov 18th!
JSRCC will host another “Around the World Through Books” discussion
on November 18 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Lipman Auditorium of the Massey
Library Technology Center on the Parham Road Campus. The session will feature The
Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe’s Treasures in the Third Reich and the
Second World War by Lynn H. Nicholas. This event is open to the public and
sponsored by the JSRCC Multicultural Enrichment Council.
Donate to area homeless
JSR LEAD, the College’s student leadership development program, is collecting items for the homeless population in Monroe Park. Donated items can be dropped in any of the wrapped collection boxes at the Downtown or Parham Road Campuses or may be delivered to the Office of Student Life – in Georgiadis Hall, Rm 206 on the Parham Road Campus or Rm 429 on the Downtown Campus. Be sure to donate items by
December 2.

Reynolds to host 1ST annual 5K race - November 20
The JSRCC Office of Student Life is coordinating the first annual Reynolds 5K Race to benefit Freedom House of Richmond on the afternoon of November 20 at the Parham Road Campus. Freedom House is a community organization that helps the homeless sustain, attain, and maintain the skills and resources they need to lead them toward change and a better life. Get your artwork on the cover of Inquiry
Inquiry: The Journal of the Virginia Community Colleges invites community college students to submit their best artwork for possible publication on the front cover of the journal. Works may be photographs, drawings, paintings, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and digital images. The winner will receive a $250 cash prize and several copies of the journal. Artwork must be original, previously unpublished, and created by a student enrolled in a Virginia community college. Up to three images may be submitted for consideration and should be submitted in digital form by email attachment by May 15, 2010. Get your student ID card and parking decal
JSRCC Police and Security officers will offer student ID’s and parking decals at each campus from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning August 24 through September 11. Beginning September 14, you can obtain your ID card and parking decal during regular open hours — Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to noon or 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. ID and decal rooms are located at the Downtown Campus in room 166C, at the Parham Road Campus in Burnette Hall, room 130 and at the Western Campus Police and Security ID Room in Building C-20. As a convenience, an ID machine is available at the Police and Security Services headquarters (Parham Road Campus, Trailer F2). This will be available during normal college hours of operation (7a.m. to 10 p.m.).
For ID cards, students are required to present a current copy of their class schedule and a valid state driver’s license or identification card. For parking decals, students must present a current copy of their class schedule, a current copy of their vehicle registration and a valid state driver’s license or identification card.
Parking at the Downtown Campus
The entrance/exit to the Downtown Campus parking deck is located on N 8th Street. Students with activated ID cards can use the Downtown Campus parking deck. Effective September 8, 2009 all students enrolled in fall classes are required to use their JSRCC issued ID. Those without an activated student ID, can obtain parking validation at the JSRCC Police and Securities Office, Room 122. Online students, distance learning students, visitors, future students, disabled students and students visiting from the Parham Road or Western Campuses are eligible to receive parking validation. Students eligible for validation will need to present a current copy of their class schedule and a Student ID or valid driver’s license.

Overflow parking at the Downtown Campus
During peak times, the main parking deck may become full. Students, staff and faculty may use auxiliary parking lots A and B located on 7th Street just past the Interstate-95 overpass. Shuttle service will be provided approximately every 10 to 20 minutes from overflow lots, as well as the staff and faculty lot in the new deck on Navy Hill Drive, to the Downtown Campus between 7:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Reynolds Police & Security will monitor overflow and staff/faculty parking lots to ensure safety and use by JSRCC students, faculty and staff only. Unauthorized vehicles will be ticketed and towed. For more information, or if you experience problems with your ID card, please contact Parking Manager, Deborah Shipe at 804.523.5471.
Overflow parking on the Parham Road Campus
Overflow parking at the Parham Road Campus is available near the recreation fields located behind the College facilities building. A special shuttle service will be provided between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. between the recreation field lots and parking lot K (near the College bookstore).

required to be successful in most jobs.
The Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA), a regional partnership
combining the workforce development efforts of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community
College and John Tyler Community College, is the point of contact for the
Career Readiness Certificate program at J. Sargeant Reynolds. If you are
