Academic Advising within Student Success Centers is designed to facilitate a seamless transition into J. Sargeant Reynolds and to provide institutional support that will encourage academic success and assist students with clarification of their academic, curricular, and career goals.
Success Center advisors interpret placement test scores and recommend courses for new students, non-curricular students, and continuing students that have successfully completed 30 or fewer credit hours.

Students may also work with a faculty advisor in conjunction with a Success Center advisor. Students are assigned a faculty advisor upon acceptance to the college. Most students will transition from success center advisors to a faculty advisor once they have achieved 30+ credit hours. However, some academic programs require that students meet with a faculty advisor beginning their first semester of enrollment. Additionally the college requires students in academic distress meet with a faculty advisor or the “Student Success Coach” depending on their academic standing. Advisors also assist students with registration and enrollment management. First-time students at JSRCC are encouraged to attend a new student orientation program to receive academic advising.

• Associates in Arts- AA
• Associates in Science-AS

If your goal is to gain skills necessary for a specific vocation/occupation:
• Associates in Applied Arts- AAA
• Associates in Applied Science- AAS
• Certificate Programs- CSC

Dynamic Classes- Classes that have varied start dates and meet at lengths other than
16 weeks, 12 weeks, 10 weeks, 8 weeks, 5 weeks, etc.
