J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is the third largest community college in Virginia and offers a variety of academic programs and services to the residents of the City of Richmond and five nearby counties. We are seeking full-time instructors to teach a variety of Practical Nursing courses in the School of Nursing and Allied Health at the Downtown Campus, 700 E. Jackson Street, Richmond, VA 23219.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Restricted full-time nine-month teaching faculty-ranked appointment. Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant. Salary range: $43,776 - $108,508. Approximate maximum hiring salary: $60,000.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Associate’s degree and/or Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing earned from a nationally accredited college or university is required. Current enrollment, or the commitment to enroll, in a degree program to obtain the Master’s degree in nursing to be completed within a three (3) to four (4) year timeframe is also required. A current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia is required. A minimum of two (2) years of full-time employment in nursing or its equivalent within the past five (5) years. The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass the college's pre-employment security screening.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Master's degree in Nursing earned from a nationally accredited college or university is preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of recent teaching experience in a nursing program. Demonstrated ability to teach effectively both in didactic and clinical settings, including course development, student assessment, course evaluation is preferred. Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology routinely into instructional responsibilities; multimedia teaching strategies and test construction. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and demonstrated ability to work diverse student populations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility is teaching in the clinical area and the classroom setting in the Practical Nursing Program with additional teaching responsibilities in the AAS Nursing Program. Faculty loads are normally scheduled on an average load of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester. Office hours, advising and collateral duty assignments, such as college and department meetings are maintained. Teaching schedules may include day, evening and weekend classes and multiple campus and off-campus clinical assignments. Opportunities for summer teaching will be based on student interest.
