SDV 101 - Orientation to Health Science
Learn the skills that are necessary to achieve your academic goals, become familiar with services offered at the college, and gain insight into the Health Science Program.
PSY 230 - Developmental Psychology
Study the development of humans from conception to death. Follow a life-span perspective on the development of human physical, cognitive, and psychosocial growth.
BIO 141 - Human Anatomy & Physiology I
Study anatomy and physiology including anatomical terminology, histology, integumentary system, skeletal system, muscular system, and nervous system.
Additional Program Information
PURPOSE: The Health Professions Career Studies Certificate is a career pathway designed to move students from basic entry-level employment skills to foundational professional skills and occupational credentials. The program serves as a pathway to an associate of applied science degree in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, or Surgical Technology. This CSC will prepare students for non-licensed, entry-level employment within a variety of health care settings.
OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The health professions educational and career ladder provides a broad foundation of core skills, knowledge, and abilities for employment as entry-level healthcare workers.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Demonstrate basic lab skills, apply the scientific method and related concepts and principles to make informed decisions and engage with issues related to health environments.
- Demonstrate the ability to work well with others and display situationally and culturally appropriate demeanor and behavior. Degree graduates will demonstrate skills important for successful transition into the workplace and pursuit of further education.
- Students demonstrate the ability to provide collaborative care.
- Practice professional behaviors in order to provide quality care and best practices in the health care setting.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: General college curricular admission.
PROGRAM NOTES: Students new to the college must attend a new student orientation program. Students enrolling in this program are required to meet with an advisor and enroll in SDV 100 or SDV 101 in the first semester. A criminal background check and drug screening are required upon admission to the nursing, respiratory therapy, or surgical technology AAS programs. Random drug screens and repeat background checks may be required for current or returning students at any time. A student with an unsatisfactory background check and/or drug screening will not be eligible for admission into these programs.
