Reynolds is currently seeking applicants for the position of English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor which will be assigned to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, on the Parham Road Campus, 1651 E. Parham Road.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time nine-month teaching faculty-ranked appointment. Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant. Salary range: $45,089 - $111,763. Approximate maximum hiring salary: $55,000.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) or a related field is required. The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Master’s degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in TESOL from an accredited institution and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience teaching ESL at a two-year institution of higher learning are preferred. Knowledge of the development of ESL curriculum and knowledge of placement testing and evaluation of language proficiencies. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a language commonly used by Reynolds ESL students (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, etc.). Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing, in English; and to work effectively with multi-cultural populations that support diversity, equity, cultural understanding, and inclusion. At least two years of World Language study and/or a substantial teaching/living experience in a foreign country is preferred. Experience in teaching online and/or in a remote environment is strongly preferred.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility is teaching ESL classes, with additional administrative responsibilities in coordinating placement testing and advising and enrolling ESL students. This position requires 12 credits of teaching each semester (fall and spring). Office hours, advising and collateral duty assignments are maintained. Teaching schedules may include day and evening classes. Three credits of reassign time in the fall and three credits of reassign time in the spring will allow the successful applicant to complete requisite administrative functions. Special Requirement: The successful applicant should expect to work three credits outside of the 9-month teaching contract period during summers for coordinating placement testing, as well as enrollment and advising of students.
