Use the information below to understand all requirements for applying to the Nursing Associate Degree Program. Complete each step in order to ensure you meet the qualifications to submit your application.

Step 1: Review Requirements and Prepare

Submit official transcripts to the Registrar Office.

  • High school, GED, or certificate of completion of homeschooling
  • All college transcripts (if applicable)
  • Transfer students: Only official transcripts are evaluated for transfer credits
  • Transfer Students from another VCCS college: Submit a transcript evaluation (Form 11-0036) to the Registrar at registrar@reynolds.edu

If English is not your first language, submit TOEFL scores. See the catalog and/or program website for specific score requirements.

Meet regularly with a Financial Aid Specialist in Enrollment Services.

  • Review credits required for each semester (most courses are 15-week format)
  • Financial aid covers courses that are required for the Nursing AAS degree
  • Plan for potential financial aid impact if general education courses are completed early

Complete all prerequisite courses with a GPA of 2.5 based on the most recent grades earned in each class.

  • SDV 100 or 101 (Student Success)
  • ENG 111 (College Composition I)
  • PSY 230 (Developmental Psychology)
  • MTH 133 (Statistics)
  • BIO 141 (Human Anatomy & Physiology I)
  • BIO 142 (Human Anatomy & Physiology II) - Required for LPN-RN Advanced Placement Option applicants

Important: Biology courses (BIO 141 and BIO 142) must be completed within 10 years of your first anticipated semester in the nursing program.

Reynolds GPA of 2.0 overall, including all prior credit courses taken at Reynolds.

Step 2: Review Program Information and Complete the TEAS Exam 

Review the nursing program information slides or attend a live session before applying.

  • Live sessions are scheduled periodically throughout the semester offered in person and via Zoom. Each Information Session will focus on questions and answers for potential nursing applicants.

LPN to RN Program Applicants

If you are currently a Licensed Practical Nurse and are applying to the LPN to RN program, it is highly recommended that you attend one of the live information sessions provided throughout the year.

Complete the program admission test.

  • The program requires completion of the TEAS exam
  • Prior HESI scores will be accepted through Fall 2026 application cycle
  • Testing Deadlines
    • For Fall Admission: TEAS must be completed by April 30
    • For Spring Admission: TEAS must be completed by August 30

Step 3: Apply to Program

Thank you for your interest! The nursing application has closed for the Fall 2025 semester. Applications will reopen for the Spring 2026 semester during the second week of June.

Nursing Program Application

All prerequisites must be completed before the application is submitted. Applications are to be submitted electronically, including copies of all the student's required documents in PDF form. Please follow the instructions on the application carefully.

Application materials sent to alliedhealthadmissions@reynolds.edu will only be accepted from a VCCS student email account. Correspondence regarding the application cannot be provided if it is received from an outside email account address.

Application Deadlines

  • Fall Semester: 3rd Monday in May to apply for the following August start
  • Spring Semester: 3rd Monday in September to apply for the following January start

Once Admitted

Grading

Nursing Program Grading Scale:

  • A = 92 – 100
  • B = 84 – 91
  • C = 80 – 83

Grade Requirements:

  • A "C" is required in each nursing program course to progress through the program
  • Any course grade of "D" or "F" must be repeated before moving to the next course
  • A course can only be repeated once
  • Two nursing course failures result in removal from the program

Program Progression

Semester Progression:

  • Progression to the next semester is based on successful completion of the current semester
  • Pre- and co-requisite courses must be taken in the sequence identified in the catalog

Additional Required Courses: The following courses must be completed before or within the identified semester with co-requisite nursing courses:

  • BIO 142 (Human Anatomy & Physiology II)
  • BIO 150 (General Microbiology)
  • ENG 112 (College Composition II)
  • Humanities/Fine Arts elective (from approved program list)

Financial Aid Note: If you have completed general education courses before the semester, your financial aid may be impacted based on the number of credits enrolled.
