Assistant Coordinator, Nurse Retention Specialist (Position No. GA256)

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT:  Full-time restricted twelve-month professional faculty-ranked appointment. Salary range:  $56,610 - $112,256. Approximate maximum hiring salary:  $62,400. Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s degree in nursing and an unrestricted Registered Nurse’s license in the Commonwealth of Virginia are required. Two years of recent and progressive teaching experience, clinical nursing experience, and in counseling and working with students who are in need of tutoring or enhancement for student success within the past five (5) years is required. The selected candidate must be able to successfully pass the college's pre-employment security screening.  

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  Master’s degree in nursing is preferred. Current/recent classroom and/or online teaching experience specifically in a nursing program. Knowledge of curricula for nurse aide, practical nursing, and registered nursing. Knowledge of counseling methodologies and practices as well as instructional strategies to assist nursing student success within the program. Demonstrated ability to provide individual and small group instruction and experiences leading to success in the students’ course of study. Demonstrated ability to interview participants and evaluate education/personal needs; administer appropriate testing, and counsel/mentor students in personal skills, test taking and other study skills as needed. Demonstrated ability to manage an educational program, conduct periodic program review, and provide annual program assessment. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and current software programs. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work with a widely diverse population of faculty, staff and students.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Assistant Coordinator, Nurse Retention Specialist develops, implements and evaluates the Nursing Retention Program for students in the nurse aide, practical nursing and registered nursing programs at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. The Retention Specialist will identify students needing assistance to achieve success in courses, develop systems for the provision of services for these students, provide direct services to the students as needed, and evaluate activities and report regularly to the Coordinator of the Nursing Programs and to the Director of Library, Information Services, and Academic Support.
