(Library Specialist I)

The college is currently seeking Library Specialists for the Downtown, Parham Road, and Goochland Campuses.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Part-time hourly position without state benefits. Wage employees are restricted to working approximately 29 hours per week or less, and no more than 1,500 hours annually.
DUTIES: The Library Assistant staffs the circulation desk and assists customers with a variety of Library services such as using Canvas, Microsoft Office, printing, basic equipment troubleshooting, and general Library questions, The Library Assistant receives requests for and schedules group study rooms; shelves books, periodicals, and media items; and assists students in locating and retrieving books from shelves. This position will also maintain Library usage statistics; and assist with special projects and other Library duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Knowledge of the general support activities of library operations. Knowledge of library policies, procedures, and techniques. Working knowledge of library functions such as circulation, stacks maintenance, etc. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and use Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated ability to assist patrons in locating information; and to make sound and practical decisions independently. Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with and to communicate and work effectively with multi-cultural populations that support diversity, cultural understanding and inclusion High school graduate or equivalent. The selected candidate must be able to pass the college’s pre-employment security screening.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Post-secondary coursework or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred. Some work experience in an educational or community college environment is preferred.
STARTING SALARY: Starting hourly rate is $13.63 per hour.
