Reynolds Culinary Arts program receives American Culinary Federation accreditation The J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Culinary Arts program has received accreditation from the American Culinary Federation, the largest professional chefs organization in North America. The American Culinary Federation Foundation Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC), which is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, provides regulatory oversight of post-secondary institutions.  >>Read the full story

Reynolds’ Opticianry Students Team up with VA Hospital Center to Make Eyeglasses for Honduras Mission First year Opticianry students attending J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College this semester will fabricate over 500 pair of eyeglasses for Honduras residents. The Virginia Hospital Center will deliver the eyeglasses during its annual medical missionary trip in November of 2007. “This is an amazing real-life opportunity for our first year students, as they will be making eyewear for real patients. Reynolds’ Dental Laboratory Program Receives Grant       J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College’s Dental Laboratory Technology Program was recently awarded a $30,000 Chancellor’s E-learning Enhancement & Development (CEED) grant by the Virginia Community College System to increase the accessibility of the program through distance learning and various multi-media delivery technologies.   >>Read the full story

JSRCC Student Receives First Statewide Nursing Scholarship Awarded by Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education Congratulations to JSRCC student Angela D. Starnes as she was named the first recipient of the VHHA Nursing Scholarship sponsored by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education. Ms. Starnes, a nursing student at Reynolds will receive $5,000 to complete here associate’s degree in nursing in a Registered Nursing (RN) program.  >>Read the full story  

JSRCC retirees honored at annual retirement celebration J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College recently honored faculty and staff who retired over the past year at a reception on the Downtown Campus.  Among the honorees were three faculty members who earned the distinction of Professor Emeriti, the highest honor bestowed upon a faculty member of the college.  President Gary L. Rhodes presented the Professor Emeriti resolutions and medallions to M. L. Grayson Foy, School of Mathematics & Science; Frances B. Stanley, of Nursing & Allied Health; and Dr. Susan S. JSRCC hosts nursing completion ceremony Nearly 100 nursing graduates participated in the biannual Nursing Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, January 25, 2007. The program recognizes students recently completing the Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing. The ceremony opened with a welcome by JSRCC President Gary Rhodes, followed by an inspirational keynote address from retired JSRCC Professor Jean Moseley, RN, MS.

Reynolds Medical Lab Program Receives
$100,000 Equipment Grant From Abbott Diagnostics
The J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Medical Laboratory Technology program has been chosen as one of only 16 programs in the country to receive an AxSYM analyzer through the Labs Are Vital ™ program sponsored by Abbott Diagnostics.  Valued in excess of $100,000, the machine measures various chemicals and the differential qualities of blood and other biological samples in the diagnosis of disease.

Reynolds to host seminar on the Iraq War
and it’s consequences in the Middle East

On Tuesday, October 10 at 7 p.m. in the North Run Auditorium, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College will present a satellite seminar on the Iraq War and it’s consequences in the Middle East. Dan Senor, former chief spokesperson for the U.S.-led Coalition in Iraq and senior advisor to presidential envoy L. Paul Bremer III, the administrator of the Coalition Provisional Authority, will lead the discussion. >> Read the full story

Reynolds Foundation donates $1M to remove
financial barriers for JSRCC students

As students headed back to campus at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College this fall the college celebrated a historic event by receiving one of its largest gifts ever donated by a private family foundation. The JSRCC Educational Foundation announced today that a $1 million gift from the Richard S. Both students and faculty at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College are all-smiles as they ring in the fall semester with wireless Internet capabilities.
