NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR OUTSTANDING RICHMOND STUDENT

RICHMOND, Va (February 6, 2006) - J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College congratulates Crystal Pace for being Phi Theta Kappa’s 2005 ALL-USA Academic team nominee. Pace is a Richmond native and 2000 J. R. Tucker High School graduate. She now serves as a member and officer of the Alpha Gamma Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, which is the largest honor society in the world. She also works as a licensed practical nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Nominees of the Phi Theta Kappa award compete nationally against 60 other schools and are required to participate in community service and academic honor programs with a minimum 3.3 grade point average. Pace received over $1,500 in scholarship funds this year, including her award from the Metropolitan Health Nursing Scholarship. She got her start with her Nurses’ Aide certificate from Hermitage Technical Center and went on to pursue her diploma from St. Mary’s School of Practical Nursing. She plans to graduate in May from Reynolds with her associate’s degree in nursing.

Crystal says, “I am motivated by my future which helps me make time for all the things I do.” Richard Groover, advisor for Reynolds’ PTK chapter says, “Crystal is an outstanding achiever, hard working, and the glue that holds her organization together.”
