HEALTH CARE CAREER FORUM FOR NON-NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS

RICHMOND, Va (March 8, 2006) - Non-native English speakers are invited to participate in the first Annual Health Careers Forum for ESL students held on Wednesday, March 22nd at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Representatives from Bon Secours, Walgreen’s Pharmacy, and J. Sargeant Reynolds will share some of the latest career opportunities in the health care industry. The event will be held in the Gallery of the Parham Road Campus-Building B from 11 am until 1 pm. Adults and high school students participating in ESL programs are encouraged to attend.

The purpose of the Health Career Forum is to expose students to a variety of career opportunities in the health care field and provide a comfortable atmosphere for students with limited English skills to dialog with practicing healthcare professionals. This event gives students the unique opportunity to learn about the basic training and education requirements for a range of health careers and connect with local health industry hiring professionals. Students will leave with practical and useful information about the commitments required to successfully enter the health care industry.

The event is sponsored by the ESL department of J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College through the School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. For more information please contact Ms. Laurie Weinberg at 523-5021 or e-mail her at lweinberg@jsr.vccs.edu.
