How the ASC operates and what can it do for
you.
Students should come to
an Academic Support Center to
obtain a copy of the
GUIDELINES and to
complete a REQUEST FOR TUTORING
application as
early as the first week of each
academic term. What
Kind of Tutoring is Available?
-
Individual Tutorial Conferences (one-on-one
scheduled
appointments)
-
Group Tutorial Conferences (scheduled
small group
appointments)
-
Walk-in Conferences (subject to availability of peer
tutors and faculty).
Use the REQUEST FOR TUTORING
application to arrange
an appointment with a tutor. If a tutor is not available for
that subject, a search for a qualified tutor is started and the application is placed on a waiting list. Students
should stop by or call the ASC periodically to check on your status.
The ASC posts schedules for walk-in sessions. The
sessions vary based on the availability of faculty and tutors. Please
check each location frequently for courses with walk-in tutoring hours.
Students may walk in to use computer, video and print
resources on a first come first served basis.(The ASC is not an
open computer lab. Students wishing to check email and work on general
assignments should use the open lab facilities on each campus.)
How
Can I Get Tutorial Assistance?
Free tutoring (see
our
Guidelines) is available to
students at JSRCC who are currently enrolled in the JSRCC credit courses
they list on the REQUEST FOR TUTORING application form. However each
semester, there may be courses for which tutors are not available.
Free tutoring is NOT provided for students in
courses that were successfully completed, in non-credit courses, in
audited courses, for seniors taking tuition-free courses or students
from special programs at the college that incorporate tutoring or
reduced sized classes.
