Pre-Teacher Education If you are interested in becoming a teacher, you can begin your pathway to teaching at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. You should identify your proposed endorsement area and bachelor's degree major as early as possible so that you can select the most appropriate degree program while at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. Most endorsement areas require a bachelor's degree in a liberal arts or sciences area. It is also helpful to identify the four-year institution to which you intend to transfer, so that your course selections at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College meet as many of the four-year institution's requirements as possible. Your choice of endorsement area and future bachelor's degree major will determine which transfer Associate degree program you select at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. You should work with a teacher education advisor to select and plan your program. After completing your associate degree and passing Praxis I, you can transfer to one of the teacher licensure programs approved by the Virginia Department of Education to seek your bachelor's degree and to meet teacher licensure requirements, including Praxis II, professional studies (education) courses, and student teaching.
