Campus Crime Statistics
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act

The Student-Right to Know and Campus Security Act of 1990, as amended by the Higher Education Technical Amendments of 1991 requires colleges and universities to disclose certain information to current and prospective students.

Title II of the Act requires that institutions proved to their current and prospective students and any applicant for enrollment information on institutional policies regarding security procedures and campus law enforcement, as well as a description of programs designed to inform students about crime prevention. Title II of the act also calls for institutions to provide statistical data about the occurrence of certain criminal offenses on campus, which have been reported to campus security authorities or local police agencies.

The statistical data reported on this web site is compiled from the records maintained by the JSRCC Department of Police, the JSRCC Director of Student Development and the following law enforcement agencies:

• Henrico Police Department (Parham Road Campus)
• City of Richmond Police Department (Downtown Campus)
• Goochland Sheriff's Office (Western Campus)

The criminal offenses are classified using the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting System definitions. The "Clery Act" defines the location categories used.

• "Non-Residential" refers to campus grounds or buildings
  not used as residential facilities.
• "Public Property" is public property such as streets and sidewalks
  adjacent to the campus.

J. Sargeant Reynolds has neither "Residential" living quarters nor "Non-Campus" buildings owned by student organizations. Therefore, our statistics for both of those categories may reflect "0." The reader should keep in mind that some crime victims may choose not to report offenses to Campus Security or local police authorities, and that violations listed may result in both arrest and disciplinary referral for the same offense. Other types of unacceptable conduct, such as thefts and vandalism, occur on college campuses. All criminal activity is detrimental to the college community and strong measures, including dismissal and arrest are taken against offenders.
