The J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Board convened at 4:06 p.m. on Thursday,

May 4, 2023 at the Parham Road Campus.

CALL TO ORDER

 

Chair Graziano called the meeting to order.

Chair Graziano affirmed that a quorum was present.

BOARD CHAIR’S REPORT

 

Chair Graziano reminded board members to please make a contribution to the J. Sargeant Reynolds Educational Foundation.  Chair Graziano reminded the board members of the importance to have 100% board participation.

 

Chair Graziano also encouraged all board members to attend Commencement on Monday,

May 15.

MINUTES

 

Chair Graziano asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of the March 2, 2023 Board Meeting.

           

Upon a motion by Mr. Bo Bundrick and seconded by Mrs. Monica Smith-Callahan the Board approved the minutes from the March 2, 2023 meeting.  The motion carried 13-0-0.

 

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

 

President Paula Pando had a recorded video presentation featuring the following:

 

  • Celebrating the YWCA Outstanding Women’s Award in Education today and the  celebration of her father’s 79th birthday.
  • Spring has sprung
  • Dr. Arthur Levine Event with Mr. Ken Ampy CEO Astyra Corporation as Moderator
  • Presentation by Dr. Terricita Sass and Ms. Melanie Boynton on Data at the AACC Annual Conference in Denver
  • 50Fest - Thank you to Mrs. Monica Smith-Callahan and Henrico County for partnering on this successful event.
  • Open House was a success
  • Chancellor Dore’s First Day on Reynolds Community College campus
  • City Approves Scholarship Program with Reynolds Community College – Pathways Program
  • Loyalty Toyota – donated a vehicle to program
  • 50Feast at The Kitchens at Reynolds
  • VCU – Series of stories by Chronicle of Education – Reynolds was invited

Dr. Sass introduced the new Dean of Students, Dr. Danielle Filipchuk, from Owens Community College in Ohio.

 

Mr. Owen Matthews asked Dr. Sass if she could provide data on the number of new, retained and reengaged students in the future reports provided by Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success.

 

Chair Graziano shared Dr. Sass is leaving the college for the position of Chief of Staff at Stockton University in New Jersey.  Chair Graziano and many board members thanked Dr. Sass for her work at Reynolds Community College and wished her much success in the future.

 

ACADEMIC, STUDENT AFFAIRS AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

 

Mr. Bo Bundrick reported the committee is asking for approval of New Advisory Committee Members and a program title change.

 

  1. Approval of New Advisory Committee Members for School of Health Professions.

 

  1.  Approval of Program Title change from Administration of Justice to Criminal Justice

 

 

Mr. Bo Bundrick made a motion for board approval of the New Advisory Committee Members for School of Health Professions and approval of Program Title Change from Administration of Justice to Criminal Justice.  Mrs. Mary Studevant seconded the motion. The motion carried 13-0-0.

 

 

 

FINANCE & FACILITIES COMMITTEE

 

Mr. Owen Matthews reported the Finance and Facilities committee met on April 20, 2023.  No action items are required today.  The Committee had great conversation on the status of the budget and Ms. Amy Bradshaw will present at the next board meeting. 

 

 

BOARD OPERATIONS & PLANNING COMMITTEE

 

  1. Approval of Bylaw Updates

 

Chair Graziano asked for a motion to approve the submitted Bylaw updates. Dr. Barbara Brown made a motion for approval of Bylaw updates and Mrs. Mary Studevant seconded the motion.  The motion carried 12-0-0.

 

Chair Graziano also shared the date for the fall College Board Retreat scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2023.  CAPT Rick Rush has graciously offered The Dominion Club under his membership.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A motion was made and seconded that: “THE J. SARGEANT REYNOLDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD ADJOURN.”  The motion carried 12-0-0.

 

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting adjourned at 4:49 p.m.
