The agreement formalizes collaboration between the two institutions and expands opportunities for students seeking to advance their education while preparing for leadership roles in today’s workforce.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) supporting the agreement has been signed by both institutions and is published on GMU’s website.

Expanding access through structured transfer pathways

The new articulation agreement provides Reynolds students with a structured academic pathway that allows them to continue their education without losing momentum after completing their associate degree. By aligning coursework and program outcomes between the colleges, the partnership helps ensure that credits transfer efficiently and students can transition smoothly into upper-level coursework.

Dr. Lori Dwyer, Vice President of Academic Affairs, said the agreement reflects Reynolds’ ongoing commitment to expanding accessible transfer opportunities that support student success.

“Creating clear pathways from Reynolds to four-year institutions helps students see a direct connection between where they begin and where they want to go,” Dwyer said. “This partnership with GMU provides our business management students with an affordable and intentional route to earning a bachelor’s degree and advancing their careers.”

Students who complete the A.A.S. in Business Management will enter GMU’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Managerial Leadership program, which focuses on leadership development, organizational communication, project management, and applied business skills designed for working professionals and transfer students.

Financial support helps remove barriers

In addition to academic alignment, the agreement offers important financial benefits for eligible students. Reynolds graduates admitted under the articulation agreement may qualify for the Mason Virginia Promise Grant (MVP), a need-based, last-dollar financial aid award.

The MVP helps close remaining tuition gaps after other forms of financial aid have been applied, reducing out-of-pocket costs and making bachelor’s degree completion more attainable for students who may otherwise face financial barriers.

College leaders say financial support is a critical component of successful transfer pathways, particularly for community college students balancing work, family, and academic responsibilities.

By combining a clearly defined academic transition with targeted financial assistance, the partnership aims to increase bachelor’s degree attainment while supporting workforce readiness across the region.

Supporting workforce and regional needs

The agreement aligns with broader efforts across Virginia to strengthen workforce development by creating educational pathways connected to employer demand. Business management and leadership skills remain among the most sought-after competencies across industries, including healthcare, government, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector businesses.

Through the partnership, students can begin their education locally at Reynolds while maintaining a clear plan for continued academic and professional growth at GMU.

Reynolds leaders note that articulation agreements play an important role in helping students plan their academic journeys early, providing clarity around transfer expectations, timelines, and outcomes.

Applicants seeking admission to GMU through the agreement must apply by March 1 for fall admission or October 1 for spring admission.

Effective beginning fall 2026

The articulation agreement will take effect beginning in fall 2026, giving current and prospective Reynolds students time to plan their academic pathways with transfer in mind.

As Reynolds continues to expand partnerships with four-year institutions, agreements like this one reinforce the college’s mission to provide accessible, high-quality education that leads to meaningful career and educational advancement.

“This agreement represents another step forward in ensuring Reynolds students have strong opportunities beyond graduation,” Dwyer said. “We are proud to work with GMU to create pathways that support student achievement and long-term success.”
